What is prosciutto?
It is an Italian dry cured ham that is thinly sliced and mostly served uncooked as antipasto, it is slightly salty with a hint of sweetness (more pronounced when cooked), it is light and buttery.
Ingredients
Prosciutto
Mascarpone: this can be substituted with cream cheese
Honey
Chives
Salt and pepper
Ritz crackers: substitute with any crackers of choice, I personally love seeded crackers and puff crackers.
Fresh basil to garnish
How to make prosciutto appetizer with cream cheese
Make the cream cheese spread: To a small mixing bowl add mascarpone (cream cheese), honey, chopped chives, salt and black pepper and stir to combine. Taste and adjust to preference then set aside. You can place it in the fridge until it is needed.
Make prosciutto roses: cut each prosciutto with a scissors lengthwise. Working on one rose at a time, fold each prosciutto into two lengthwise (horizontally) and twist it loosely then wrap into a circle to form a rose.
Assemble: Place the crackers onto a platter of choice, dollop about a teaspoon of the chive cream cheese filling on each cracker. Carefully place the prosciutto on the cream cheese pressing gently so it sits nicely on the cracker. (be careful not to be heavy-handed when doing this in other not to break the delicate biscuit) garnish with fresh basil leaves.
Serve and enjoy
Tips
- Not a fan of crackers or would prefer something more filling, swap the crackers for biscuits, bruschetta or crostini.
- Swap the cream cheese for goat cheese
- Add any spices of choice to the cream cheese to make it yours
- Swap the honey for maple syrup or glazed balsamic vinegar if you prefer.

Buffy says
Hi. Is it cream cheese as in Philadelphia Cream Cheese block or is it mascarpone cheese which is soft and spreadable with a subtle taste? I'm thinking its the latter but wanted to confirm. The recipe confused me. Thank you.
Olu says
Hello Buffy, I apologize for the confusion. I used mascarpone for this recipe but it can be substituted with cream cheese such as Philadelphia. I am just realizing the ingredient image state cream cheese. That will be fixed ASAP. Thank you and I hope you get to try this recipe.
