Puff pastry cinnamon rolls recipe
This is not your regular cinnamon roll or should I say cinnamon swirl recipe, it’s even better!

I am notorious for making cinnamon pull-apart bread with baguette (I will share the recipe with you soon). My first experience of puff pastry cinnamon roll was only recent and let's just say it was love at first sight and I have never looked back!
It sure satisfies my sweet cravings! After many trips to the shop just for this delicious pastry, I decided to make my own and I’m so happy I did. it is easier than you think and can be whipped up in no time!
So, why not give it a try and surprise your family with a homemade puff pastry cinnamon roll for breakfast, brunch, or as a snack? I guarantee that everyone will enjoy them!
Why this cinnamon swirl recipe is so good
Quick & easy to make especially since you will be using store-bought puff pastry, everyone can have fun with this one! perfect for parties, brunch, or just a sweet treat to feed a crowd or just yourself- you’ll go through these in no time!
They are most delicious when served fresh out of the oven. Nevertheless, you can still freeze them and bake them later.
No need for yeasted dough or waiting around for the dough to rise. You just unroll the puff pastry, spread out some butter and sugar, sprinkle on cinnamon and roll up and bake. That easy!
It can be prepared in advance and frozen, and it stands up well to freezing. So you may make them ahead of time and bake them for guests or just for yourself. (I won't tell anyone if you eat these all by yourself, I promise 😉).

Store-bought puff pastry

How to make this puff pastry cinnamon roll recipe
Preheat the oven at 200C/400F then line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.
If using frozen store-bought puff pastry dough, make sure to have thawed overnight in the fridge so that it is easier to work with.
To a small mixing bowl, add brown sugar, cinnamon, and mix to combine. Melt the butter just a little bit (about 5 to 10 seconds) and set it aside to cool
Carefully unroll the puff pastry on a lightly floured worktop or in the parchment paper it came with. (you would have this if you bought your puff pastry from the fridge section)
Brush the pastry dough with the melted butter, leaving about a 1-inch border on all sides, then sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly on the buttered perimeter.
Carefully roll the dough tightly to form a log then trim off the two ends. using a serrated knife or floss, cut the rolled dough into 8- 10 discs.
arrange each sliced dough on the prepared baking sheet making sure to leave spaces in between to allow for expansion during baking.
Bake the cinnamon rolls in the oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown at the top and fully baked. Remove them from the oven and leave them to cool slightly in the baking sheet before moving to a wire rack or serving.
Whilst the cinnamon swirls cool, move on to making the frosting. To a small mixing bowl, add milk, vanilla essence, and powdered sugar and mix until combined.
drizzle the icing glazing over the puff pastry cinnamon roll and serve immediately while it is still warm.
Storage instructions
Fridge: if you have any cinnamon swirls leftover, let it cool completely and transfer into a Ziploc bag, and store in the fridge for up to 5 days. You can eat it cold at room temperature or heat it up a bit.
To reheat: the best way to reheat this recipe is in the oven or air fryer. Reheat at 180C/365F for about 5 minutes or until heated through to your liking. alternatively, simply pop it in the microwave for a few seconds.
Tips
- You may use any amount of sugar you desire. You may also mix different varieties of sugars, or just stick with brown sugar to get that delicious caramel flavor.
- Substitute cinnamon powder for apple pie spice (mixed spice)
- If you would be making these cinnamon rolls ahead of time? follow steps 1-4 and freeze the cinnamon rolls individually on a lined baking sheet. you can cook the pastry directly from frozen
- Fill the puff pastry with chocolate chips or chopped nuts of your choosing, I love pecans and walnuts. Feel free to personalize it any way you like.
How to thaw frozen puff pastry
It is best to thaw puff pastry in the fridge overnight but if time is not of the essence then you can leave it to thaw at room temperature. Just leave your frozen pastry dough out to thaw about 30 minutes before use. Remember to place it on parchment paper so that the puff pastry does not stick onto the countertop.
If the puff pastry becomes too soft to handle, set it in the freezer or refrigerator for 5 minutes to firm it up.
